driver/framework news roundup for Kimi
#1
Spent some time on this today and wanted to compare notes.

I'm comparing two approaches here: keep it simple on mini PC, or squeeze more out of the stack and deal with the complexity.

What would you pick if you had to live with it for a few months?

subscribed, curious where this lands.

What exact setup are you running? Is this local-only or are you routing anything externally?

What exact setup are you running? Do you see the same thing with a smaller batch or shorter prompt?

I'd approach it in a boring order. If you're on PyTorch, I'd confirm the version first and then reduce variables until the behavior is obvious. A lot of these threads end up being one bad config plus a pile of conclusions drawn from it.

Good point. The pattern around NVFP4 has been pretty similar for me. The biggest change for me was simplifying the stack instead of adding one more optimization layer.

My first guess would be this: On mini PC, the easiest win is often to back off the aggressive settings and see whether the problem survives. A lot of these threads end up being one bad config plus a pile of conclusions drawn from it.

Can you fill in a bit more context? What model, what runtime, and roughly what context size?

That matches what I was seeing. That matches what I saw on mini PC. I got better results once I stopped chasing one metric and just looked at whether the workflow felt usable.

A couple things I'd check first. Start by verifying the driver/runtime combo, then test with a smaller prompt, then look at small local stacks. Once you know the plain path works, then add the faster path back in piece by piece.
