desktop runtimes for non-devs

Spent some time on this today and wanted to compare notes.

Two paths both seem viable, but they break down differently once MoE serving becomes important.

What would you pick if you had to live with it for a few months?
post logs or it didn't happen

Good point. I don't think your conclusion is far off. The biggest change for me was simplifying the stack instead of adding one more optimization layer.

I don't think that's the whole story. The reported numbers can look compelling, but in ordinary usage I didn't see the same benefit.

I'd approach it in a boring order. If you're on PyTorch, I'd confirm the version first and then reduce variables until the behavior is obvious. Not glamorous advice, but repeatable baselines save a lot of time.

subscribed, curious where this lands.

If you post your exact settings, people here can probably narrow it down pretty fast.

Did a small comparison this afternoon. On GB200 with LM Studio, I saw basically the same behavior.

Interesting, I hadn't tried that. I ended up in about the same place using LM Studio.

My first guess would be this: Before rebuilding anything, I'd test one clean baseline with Kimi and compare from there. Not glamorous advice, but repeatable baselines save a lot of time.

Maybe, but I had the opposite result. I've seen people blame speculative decoding when the real issue was much more mundane. Could be a workload difference, but I wouldn't generalize too fast from one setup.

A couple questions before I guess too hard. What model, what runtime, and roughly what context size?
