This keeps coming up in conversation so I figured I'd start a thread.
It feels like the conversation has shifted hard toward inference and serving details lately, and honestly that makes sense once you start dealing with workstation thermals.
Maybe obvious to some of you, but it clicked for me this week.
For context, I'm not chasing leaderboard numbers. I mostly want the system to feel consistent day to day.

Need a little more detail here. What model, what runtime, and roughly what context size?

Not sure I agree there. I've seen people blame router policy when the real issue was much more mundane. Worth testing the simpler explanation before adopting the more interesting one.

Interesting, I hadn't tried that. I don't think your conclusion is far off. Worth rechecking your defaults though, because one bad assumption can make the rest of the thread look confusing.

What exact setup are you running? Is this local-only or are you routing anything externally?

Maybe, but I had the opposite result. The reported numbers can look compelling, but in ordinary usage I didn't see the same benefit. Worth testing the simpler explanation before adopting the more interesting one.
There are a few different conversations hiding inside this thread, so being explicit about the goal helps.

Need a little more detail here. Do you see the same thing with a smaller batch or shorter prompt? Turns out 'just one more test' was a lie.
