driver/framework news roundup: early impressions - amberrunner - 10-09-2026 This keeps coming up in conversation so I figured I'd start a thread. The more I work with local setups, the more it seems like consumer GPUs decides everything downstream. Curious whether that lines up with what other people are seeing. The part that surprised me was how much the boring details mattered more than the model choice. Re: driver/framework news roundup: early impressions - southpatch - 10-11-2026 I think the bottleneck is somewhere else. I wouldn't optimize around that first. On my side the bigger swing came from the runtime and not the model. Worth testing the simpler explanation before adopting the more interesting one. Re: driver/framework news roundup: early impressions - deepseeked - 10-11-2026 What worked for me was pretty simple. Start by verifying the driver/runtime combo, then test with a smaller prompt, then look at tool calling. Re: driver/framework news roundup: early impressions - mangowire - 10-12-2026 A couple things I'd check first. Before rebuilding anything, I'd test one clean baseline with DeepSeek and compare from there. Re: driver/framework news roundup: early impressions - thetashed24 - 10-12-2026 Need a little more detail here. Is this local-only or are you routing anything externally? Re: driver/framework news roundup: early impressions - dockriver - 10-15-2026 That matches what I was seeing. I don't think your conclusion is far off. The biggest change for me was simplifying the stack instead of adding one more optimization layer. The biggest change for me was simplifying the stack instead of adding one mo Good point. That matches what I saw on M3 Max. I got better results once I stopped chasing one metric and just looked at whether the workflow felt usable. Re: driver/framework news roundup: early impressions - fastlab - 10-18-2026 Thanks, that helps. I ended up in about the same place using LM Studio. Worth rechecking your defaults though, because one bad assumption can make the rest of the thread look confusing. |
