dedicated AI gadgets you actually use for Gemma - lablab - 10-09-2026 Spent some time on this today and wanted to compare notes. I'm comparing two approaches here: keep it simple on mini PC, or squeeze more out of the stack and deal with the complexity. What would you pick if you had to live with it for a few months? My use case is pretty ordinary: local chat, some document work, and occasional batch jobs. Re: dedicated AI gadgets you actually use for Gemma - routecrate - 10-10-2026 worth checking the driver first. Re: dedicated AI gadgets you actually use for Gemma - latentscope35 - 10-10-2026 A couple questions before I guess too hard. What model, what runtime, and roughly what context size? Re: dedicated AI gadgets you actually use for Gemma - mangopath4 - 10-13-2026 I think the bottleneck is somewhere else. I wouldn't optimize around that first. On my side the bigger swing came from the runtime and not the model. Worth testing the simpler explanation before adopting the more interesting one. Re: dedicated AI gadgets you actually use for Gemma - flintriver50 - 10-13-2026 Not sure I agree there. I wouldn't optimize around that first. Re: dedicated AI gadgets you actually use for Gemma - routecrate - 10-13-2026 I'd approach it in a boring order. If you're on vLLM, I'd confirm the version first and then reduce variables until the behavior is obvious. Re: dedicated AI gadgets you actually use for Gemma - flintriver50 - 10-13-2026 I don't think that's the whole story. The reported numbers can look compelling, but in ordinary usage I didn't see the same benefit. |
