sqlite + embeddings surprisingly ok: early impressions
Posted by: sanescope - 09-21-2026, 11:37 PM - Forum: Model Merging - Replies (5)

Posting this in case it saves someone else a little time.

I'm not trying to build a perfect architecture diagram. I just want a sane starting point around TensorRT-LLM and mini PC.

I'm especially interested in mistakes worth avoiding.

  framework overhead in real deployments
Posted by: stackpilot - 09-21-2026, 11:35 PM - Forum: PyTorch / JAX / Other Frameworks - Replies (8)

This keeps coming up in conversation so I figured I'd start a thread.

It feels like the conversation has shifted hard toward inference and serving details lately, and honestly that makes sense once you start dealing with embeddings.

Curious whether that lines up with what other people are seeing.

My use case is pretty ordinary: local chat, some document work, and occasional batch jobs.

memory layers vs plain long context
Posted by: mellowsupply - 09-21-2026, 11:01 PM - Forum: Long Context / Memory - Replies (1)

Spent some time on this today and wanted to compare notes.

I'm comparing two approaches here: keep it simple on Threadripper box, or squeeze more out of the stack and deal with the complexity.

What would you pick if you had to live with it for a few months?

I figured I'd ask here before changing everything.

I'm mostly working with FLUX in Ollama on A6000. The part I'm trying to understand is prefix caching.

If you've tested something similar, what did you keep and what did you stop bothering with?

Wondering if this is just where the whole space is heading now.

Interested in tradeoffs more than fan loyalty.

This is mostly for local work rather than public serving. The logs were somehow calmer than I was.

vLLM vs SGLang for small teams
Posted by: signalcraft14 - 09-21-2026, 07:25 PM - Forum: vLLM / SGLang - Replies (8)

Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

I'm trying to decide whether to keep the current stack or change course. Main question is how people here are handling tokens/sec.

If you've tested something similar, what did you keep and what did you stop bothering with?

I care more about stability than squeezing the last possible tokens/sec out of it.

best local runtime for mixed models
Posted by: vectorember - 09-21-2026, 07:25 PM - Forum: Ollama / LM Studio / Desktop Runtimes - Replies (6)

Did a bit of testing and thought I'd post the result here.

After a few runs on M3 Max, I ended up with decent performance, but the setup only really made sense once I adjusted around token cost.

Nothing scientific here, just practical notes from a real setup.

what changed after the inference shift

Posting this in case it saves someone else a little time.

I'm helping a small team set up a local workflow. We don't need a giant stack, but we do care about small local stacks.

Would rather learn from your scars than collect my own all at once.
